What water recreational activities San Antonio offers?

From the moment you cross the San Antonio River into downtown, it’s easy to spot all of the kayaks and paddle boarders out for a spin on the water. With so many waterways winding their way through our city, there are plenty of places to enjoy a relaxing day or thrilling adventure on the water. Here are some of our favorite water recreational activities in San Antonio!

Tubing down the Comal River is a must-do activity when you’re in town. The Comal is the shortest river in the world, and it’s located right in New Braunfels, about a half hour drive from downtown San Antonio. You can tube year-round on the Comal, but it’s especially fun during the summer months when the weather is warm and the water is refreshing.

Another great spot for tubing is along the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, which is about an hour drive from San Antonio. The Guadalupe River has more rapids than the Comal, so it’s perfect for those looking for a little more excitement on their float trip.

If you’re looking to cool off without getting wet, head to the San Antonio Museum of Art. The museum is located in the heart of downtown and it has a beautiful outdoor sculpture garden that features a number of large water fountains. The fountains are especially popular with kids, who love to run around and play in the water.

For something a little more active, try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on Lady Bird Lake. SUP is a great workout, and it’s also really relaxing when you’re out on the water surrounded by nature. You can rent paddle boards at several locations around town, or take a lesson if you’ve never done it before.

Kayaking is another popular water activity in San Antonio. There are a number of kayak rental companies that will deliver your kayak to the river or lake of your choice, so you can explore at your own pace. Some of our favorite spots for kayaking include the San Antonio River, Lady Bird Lake, and Canyon Lake.

Whether you’re looking to relax or get active, there are plenty of water recreational activities to enjoy in San Antonio. So get out there and explore our beautiful waterways!
