Peer Mentoring

The heart of Mom2Mom is our Peer Mentoring Program.  We match pregnant and breastfeeding moms with peer mentors to provide one-on-one support and guidance from one mom to another.  Usually this happens in the first few weeks following birth, when a new mom typically needs extra support in establishing breastfeeding.

However, any breastfeeding mom can receive a mentor at any time.

We also make every effort to match moms with special circumstances to mentors who have successfully breastfed in similar situations.  Some examples:

•NICU stay

•Working Moms

•Active Duty

•Exclusive pumping

•Tandem nursing

(breastfeeding a new baby while still nursing an older child)

•Adoption/induced lactation

•Many others

To become a peer mentor, a woman must have breastfed a minimum of 6 months and weaned no more than 3 years ago, and she needs to consider breastfeeding to have been a positive experience.  Any mom who meets these requirements can sign up for Mom2Mom's one-day mentor training by emailing membership@mom2momkmc.org.
